Invented in 1919 by Peter Halajian, who sold his homemade candy door-to-door. During World War II, Peter Paul focused on making Mounds bars instead of other products due to a shortage of sugar and coconut. The company sent five million Mounds bars to soldiers each month. After the war, Peter Paul added almonds to the Mounds bar to create Almond Joy.
